A Firehouse is a family and so are we. Founded by Emmy Award-Winning Special Effects Coordinator, Doug Hardy in 2017, we are a collective of professionals that take pride in the quality of our work and our engineering and technical strengths. We believe in keeping things simple, safe and cost-effective. There is no idea too big for our enthusiasm and creativity.

Doug Hardy is the founder of Firehouse Effects and has been in the film industry since 2003. He has a Bachelor of Accounting Science and several Fire Engineering qualifications. He is our SFX Supervisor and Licensed Pyrotechnician. He has a passion for firefighting inherited from his days building fire engines in Johannesburg, and over 20 years of volunteer experience fighting wildfires.

Hermie Venter has been working in the film industry since 2005. He is a Key Rigger and SFX Coordinator and has a national diploma in Mechanical Engineering and a Fire Engineering qualification. He has a passion for rigging, special effects and rock climbing.

Sarah Jane Hardy has been working in the film industry since 2014. She worked on set for six years as a SFX Technician before retiring to her current role as director and business administrator.

Emma is our CEO and has no experience at all. She acquired the post with nothing more than nepotism. She is a German Shepard and has a passion for sitting under our lunch table eating chicken. Catch her in office every Tuesday and Friday.

Mike Hardy has been working in the film industry since 2017. He is an SFX Coordinator, Rigger, Mechanic and Workshop Supervisor. He has a Bachelor of Commerce, Commercial Diving and Fire Engineering Qualifications. He has a passion for fabrication, vehicle customisation, special effects, rigging, and carpentry. Doomed from birth, he carries the Hardy obsession with fire engines into its third generation.
